Silvia Carenzi is a researcher and analyst with almost ten years of experience working on issues at the intersection of peace, conflict, and security; political violence; and religious mobilization in Syria and the broader WANA region, grounded in field research. Her background spans the think tank and academic sectors. She holds a PhD in Transnational Governance from the Scuola Normale Superiore, Italy. She serves as an Associate Research Fellow at the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI), and previously held visiting or non-resident affiliations with the Centre for the Comparative Study of Civil War at the University of York (UK), Sciences Po Paris (France), Marmara University (Istanbul), and Hasan Kalyoncu University (Gaziantep). She is currently developing her doctoral research on the evolution of armed groups in Syria into a book, with the support of a grant awarded by the European International Studies Association (EISA).
